Dysport ® is an injectable form of botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxic protein used to temporarily paralyze muscles. It is approved for use in cosmetic procedures to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as for medical purposes such as treating muscle spasms. Similar to Botox®, Dysport® paralyzes the facial muscles, causing a reduction in facial movement and activity. The difference between Botox® and Dysport® is in the units of measurements. Dysport® also has a slightly quicker onset and a slightly wider diffusion area. This is an advantage in some areas of the face.

Botox is one of the most well-known cosmetic treatments in the world. It works by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is responsible for controlling muscle contractions. By temporarily preventing these contractions, the skin overlying the treated muscles smooths out, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox injections are commonly used on the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet). The effects of Botox typically last for three to six months, after which the treatment must be repeated to maintain the desired results.
